Happy Hens Farm: Eggsactly what the world needed!

Happy Hens Farm

“Cruelty is one fashion statement we can all do without!” – Rue McClanahan.

Humans are often reckless in behaviour towards other living species. We tend to overlook what damage we cause upon them while existing on their existence. Of the many things we’re reckless about, poultry farming is one great example. Hens are treated with utmost cruelty.

https://www.thehappyhensfarm.com/subscribe/ is here to make sure that every hen is a Happy Hen.

When something is uneggceptable, then eggsplore healthy alternatives!

Happy Hens Farm

More than 300 million birds are caged in a space less than an A4 sized piece of paper. Happy Hens Farm intends to free them and ensure every bird is treated humanely. The brand creates wealth for marginalized farmers by promising them a consistent and reasonable monthly income. They engage these farmers in ethical poultry farm practices to produce the best tasting eggs.

They are the first free range egg in India since 2010. They ensure the best Humane farm standards, antibiotic, hormone & pesticide residue-free eggs. These eggs are fortified on specific nutrition like Omega 3.

Happy Hens Farm is the only CERTIFIED farmer-integrated free range brand in India.

This is an internationally recognized HFAC certification.

Sounds eggsciting! Who are these eggsperts?

Manjunath M loved animals ever since he was kid. His family was in the Agriculture business, and he volunteered in rescuing urban wild life in Bangalore during his college days. He has studied Business Management and Fashion Design at NIFT Bangalore, and he started his career in textiles. A casual conversation with friends on how insensitive we are about farm animals, triggered an instant spark, and the name Happy Hens was conceptualized. In April 2010, Manjunath had his first farm in Bagepalli. Lots of travel and interaction with local villagers helped Manjunath know everything that needed to be known about Free Range Farming.

Ashok Kannan is a physically special person who had the luxury of skipping school (studied only up to 4th standard). He’s a self-learned man. He’s a cricket enthusiast, and he learned Hindi and English by listening to cricket commentary. A serial entrepreneur, with never give up attitude. He was previously in the BPO business and was a herbal trader for 15 years. He wanted to ensure quality protein to his family, so he started Free Range Farming in 2011. Has trained & shared knowledge with 100+ farmers in free range model in his Trichy farm.

Manjunath M and Ashok Kannan accidentally met each other online in 2012. They quickly discovered that they have common goals, and decided to join hands.

Happy Hens Farm: Future plans for business eggspansion?

Currently, Happy Hens Farm operates in Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa, Pune & Delhi. Has tie ups with organic retail stores like Foodhall, Nature’s Basket, Big Basket, Freshalicious, etc. They’ve also partnered with Taj Hotels, Marriott Hotels, Four Seasons and others. They also have a Direct-To-Home option through their website for Bangalore. In the next 5 years, they aim to be present in 10 cities and have more than 5000 stores, with a major focus on Direct-To-Home.

They’ve also formed India’s first Cage Free & Free Range Poultry Producers Association (CFFRPPA) – a consortium that represents the next generation of humane poultry farming.

PariPari -Creating defining global footprints in footwear fashion

PariPari

As a fashion accessory, footwear plays a very important part in a woman’s wardrobe. Along with style the comfort factor too ranks equally high while choosing footwear. For Guneesha Kohli of PariPari, being a woman plus an entrepreneur, meant that she had a decisive edge when she ventured into creating high-quality women’s footwear.

She says, “At PariPari comfort meets cool. We fondly call them Sole Staples. With over a decade of experience in shoe making as an export unit crafting footwear for global fashion stores, the COVID impact gave impetus to the creation of a homegrown brand with global design sensibilities and global ambitions.”

PariPari – slow fashion footwear that is fast becoming a trending brand!

While working with the 30 years old family business of handicraft exports, Guneesha Kohli used to often be asked about where someone could buy their products locally. This made her realize that there was a lack of homegrown footwear brands in India.

With the intention of starting her own footwear brand she applied for the WSP program by NSRCEL, IIM Bangalore and was amongst the top 200 out of 11800 applicants to get incubated. Expressing her gratitude Guneesha says, “The team at NSRCEL and the mentors have hand held me to conceptualize and launch PariPari the way I did. I owe the success of PariPari to them.” Guneesha’s Msc. Tech Entrepreneurship degree from UCL, London too has helped her take the brand further.

In April 2020, with the Covid pandemic hitting the export business hard, Guneesha with her 3 month old baby in her arms and in midst of postpartum depression, took the brave decision of conceptualizing PariPari as a B2C brand. Today PariPari is a much sought after fashion footwear brand.  Says Guneesha “We use high-quality eco-friendly materials like linen, jute and genuine leather and combine them with age-old techniques like crochet, beadwork, ikat and embroidery, to create premium artisanal slow fashion footwear.”

The PariPari USP is the jute sole espadrilles. Completely hand woven and hand-stitched it is the only company in India making these. It also offers a repair policy where if a shoe opens up, it is re-stitched so a customer can prolong its use and prevent fashion waste.

PariPari more than a footwear brand… now a coveted fashion statement

With a product line that caters to an emerging class of choosy, fashion and environment conscious customers, Guneesha Kohli says “We were overwhelmed at the response we got to our launch bang in the middle of the second wave. It boosted our morale and our finances a great deal and we recovered our initial investment of Rs.2 lakhs within the first month itself.”

These positive build ups around the PariPari brand augur well for the future. It is now set to go to the next level of achieving the status of a coveted fashion accessory to be flaunted with pride. By concentrating on aggressive brand awareness and expanding the brand footprint, PariPari aims at having physical stores in Delhi and Mumbai in the next 5 years and is simultaneously expanding its online reach to include an ever expanding customer base.

MySilkLove: Weave. Believe. Achieve. This handcrafted Saree brand will make you “fall” in love with it!

my silk love

“The secret of great style is to feel good in what you wear!” – Inès de la Fressange.

It all started with a Diwali vacation to Tamil Nadu, where Priyanka Ghule – Founder of MySilkLove OPC Pvt. Ltd. – witnessed the production of Kanjivaram Silk Sarees. She was thoroughly impressed with the quality of these Sarees, but there was too much effort being expended by the weavers, with very little monetary return. She also discovered that these weavers weren’t getting good responses through online sales on Meesho, WhatsApp groups and Facebook Marketplace and running operations, customer success and logistics was a pain for these weavers. This triggered a business idea and the rest is history!

With a degree in Engineering and also an MBA degree, Priyanka had all the tools needed to launch https://mysilklove.com. She has worked with logistics company Xpressbees , so figuring out e-commerce operations was fairly smooth. Her husband Vinayak Katkar runs a digital marketing company, so she was destined to be on the right path. With support from her friends and family, Priyanka was able to kick-start her dream!

Something good for everybody involved…

MySilkLove sources Silk Sarees directly from weavers, and sells them on their platform. The brand has created opportunities for weavers wherein they get paid fairly for their hard work. Since there are no middlemen, the prices are competitive for the end users as well. Considering the fact that women are the target demographic, the quality is always uncompromised, and hence – MySilkLove is the only saree brand in India that offers a No Questions Asked return policy. They also offer assisted buying with videos and live calls to check the quality, finish, design and colours of the products. The best part is that these products can be shipped GLOBALLY!

When an idea looms over your head, turn it into an inspirational yarn!

“I started my business at the age of 26”, says Priyanka Ghule, “… and I had a capital of Rs. 1,00,000 of my personal savings”. On 1st August 2020, MySilkLove started off with 50 weavers within 1 month, and today there are more than 2000 weavers associated with the brand from all over India. Astonishingly, they sell more than 1000 products a month!

New age consumers like ancient traditional art in contemporary format. MySilkLove excels at fulfilling that desire. They bring in a contemporary design touch to traditional Silk Sarees. There are more than 3000 premium Silk Sarees under one single platform. Not just that, there are NINE different varieties of silk that the consumer can choose from. At local shops, the range is limited to maybe 100 options at best, but on this platform – the range stands at a remarkable 3000!

Designing a promising future…

MySilkLove Fashion OPC Pvt. Ltd. is committed to the consistent upliftment and improvement of its products and its responsibilities towards the weaver community. They are striving hard to achieve highest levels of customer satisfaction through timely deliveries, enhanced quality and contemporary essence to ancient clothing saree. Their vision is to become India’s preeminent destination for ethnic shopping, providing THE best products from all over India.

With 5000 customers in the bag, and having fulfilled more than 6500 orders to date, MySilkLove has generated a commendable revenue of Rs. 2 CR within one year. Based on the rapid speed at which the business is flourishing, Priyanka Ghule foresees a whopping 100 CR revenue in the next 5 years!

ILLUSIONAL MACRAME: On a mission to empower women artists and create a platform to sell their art globally.

illusional macrame

A textile-crafting technique that traces its history back to Arabic weavers during the 13th century, Macrame uses decorative knots to finish the loose-ends of hand-woven textiles. Till date, it continues to adorn many homes as table-clothes, bedspreads, curtains and other decorative pieces. Quite a few brands in India recognize and appreciate the uniqueness of this art.

Launched on 21st April 2021 by the gutsy software developer-turned-entrepreneur Shaikh Sana, Illusional Macrame is a startup that aims to provide eco-friendly sustainable fibre art so that an artist would not have to struggle to either start a business or keep running their existing business. It provides guidance to all artists struggling with art sales and provides a platform where products of various artists are promoted, thereby bringing sales & more engagement to their page.

Journey began with answering the call of creativity

Who would have thought that an art form learnt ages ago would serve as an inspiration for your first startup venture? That’s exactly what happened with the founder of Illusional Macrame. In the summer of 2011, she casually learnt the basics of macramé art, but then life happened.

A software developer by profession, Sana was always passionate about creating something new, either through coding or through art. Creating functional yet creative décor had been her ever-growing passion.

To gratify those creative instincts, soon after completing education, she started making different home décor products. When she learnt that no vendor provides 100% cotton macramé or other accessories, she began toying with the idea of starting a business that would extend help to all artists by providing the necessary accessories so that they don’t have to compromise with their art. After thorough research and adequate preparation, ILLUSIONAL MACRAME came into being, the brand name coined by her father. Sana attributes the success of this ambitious venture to the unconditional support and encouragement she received from her family.

Everything you need to know about ILLUSIONAL MACRAME

This is a one stop shop for pure cotton macramé cord, which is 100% eco-friendly, and all other accessories related to macramé art. The brand strives to launch new, budget-friendly products in the market, so creativity can flow effortlessly for the artist.

ILLUSIONAL MACRAME provides constant guidance to its clients regarding sales expansion. Its major clients are young girls & women who want to become independent in this society.

It prioritizes women empowerment, providing necessary resources, guidance and support to help women grow as financially independent individuals. Headed by a self-made woman entrepreneur, the startup encourages sharing learnings and building a strong community of passionate and ambitious women who can create opportunities for themselves.

All set for the future

The three-month old venture is already making heads turn with its unique concept and impeccable service. In just 50 days, it has provided services to around 120+ customers including international customers.

While talking about further plans, Sana elaborates “The future goal is to create a brand where we can provide more sustainable & eco-friendly fiber art globally. The main target of ILLUSIONAL MACRAME is to empower women artists and create a platform where all the artists can sell their art all over the world and become more financially independent.”

Dirums: Creating a vibrant platform to alter the canvas of Art Buying!

Dirums

The business of marketing Art presents a truly unique challenge. Art is big business, but as far as the artist and the buyer go, there is a sense of disconnect. This is because of such critical factors like artist information, genre, distance, ease of buying etc. is still in a space that can only be described as grey.

Another major deterrent that continues to impact the art market, is the fact that there still prevails a lack of transparency in the buying and selling process.

What is needed is a genuine space that would bring both the Artist and the Art Buyer together and address their unique needs, in a professional, convenient and mutually beneficial manner. Dirums Collective Pvt. Ltd. is exactly that sort of space.

Art Marketing – A challenge to be answered with imagination!

Dirums was founded in October 2020 by Akshay Agarwal, who himself is an ardent art lover. His wide travels and his exposure to various art forms, artists and also art markets across countries, made him realize one very important and much neglected aspect – Art lovers do not have direct access to any organized art platform to meet the artist and buy directly from them.  Being an entrepreneur by nature he saw this gap as an ideal business opportunity and created what is perhaps one of India’s most trusted online Art Market – Dirums.

Having shared this idea with a professor in XLRI who spotted the great potential the idea had, also encouraged Akshay to push ahead with it.

This dynamic portal is now a virtual showcase for the established artists, as well as a whole bunch of exciting emerging talent. The art genre, the artist profile, the artwork, the concept behind the work and the price – everything is available at the click of a mouse. Imagine the ease of connecting and also the buying!

Till now artists, especially the emerging and small rural artists in India, had a middleman who sold their work for a very high price, but did not disclose the value of the actual transaction to them. Dirums will remove the middle man and empower both, the Artist and the Art lover. By doing this it will bring about a parity in the share of the Artist’s proceeds from the sale of his artwork.

Covid19 also meant that Art lovers and Artists lost out on any possible physical, face to face connection at Art galleries and Art exhibitions.  So the timing for Dirums to be launched was actually right!

Exploring the multifaceted dimensions of Art!

Dirums has built up an enviable portfolio of artworks curated by experts. The range available includes art from diverse genres so as to appeal to a vast audience. The portal also has a section where artists can be commissioned to create hand drawn custom portraits too! All you have to do is pick what you need to make the space of your choice look even more beautiful!

Having built up a client base drawn from corporates, government institutions as well as individual art lovers, Dirums is now truly set to make a difference!

Hungry Bums: The brainchild of a homemaker-turned-entrepreneur, who aspires to help mothers choose a healthy lifestyle for their kids through its nutritious and organic venture

Hungry Bums:

“When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice – once for herself and once for her child.” ~ Sophia Loren

When it comes to the health and happiness of a child, nobody knows it better than a mother. Since her primary concern in life is to ensure her child’s safety and well-being, she can go to great lengths to choose what is best for her child. For mothers who are looking for healthy, nutritious, chemical-free baby foods, the search ends here. Launched on 20th July, 2018, Hungry Bums is the brainchild of homemaker-turned-entrepreneur Priyanka Goenka who aspires to help mothers choose a healthy life for their kids by providing the highest quality of food to little babies.

How motherhood gave birth to a start-up enterprise

Besides being an entrepreneur, Priyanka is a devoted mother to her beautiful daughter Vanya. The reason why Hungry Bums came up was because she didn’t want to feed her daughter anything that was not right for the tiny angel. Coming from a chemical based background she knew exactly what kind of chemicals and preservatives were used inside packaged products available in the market and she was aware of their harmful effects on children. Unshakeable in her belief, Priyanka started making everything at home from the basic cereals to biscuits to crackers. To ensure variation in taste, she tried and tested everything possible and it always worked. Her unwavering determination led to learning and educating herself about nutrition and children-friendly recipes from other sources. Finally a realisation kicked in that “yes, it is unique”.

New mothers hardly receive any proper guidance as far as children’s nutrition and food habits are concerned. Mostly they’re unaware of the fact that grains like ragi/oats etc also exist and are easily digestible by little tummies. This is when the idea of Hungry Bums occurred. It was 20th July 2018 when the brand made its first sale, right on the date when Vanya turned one. As Priyanka proudly says “Vanya is the sole reason and backbone behind this healthy and organic venture, packed with nutritious approach. My husband initiated the idea and has stood like a wall through thick and thin.”

Hungry Bums: Where healthy and yummy baby food coexist

Hungry Bums is focused on delivering superior, chemical-free food and nutrition to babies. These handmade, homemade products are delivered across India. As Priyanka rightly says ” Today every industry is competitive but in our industry with all the competition in the market, there is no other brand providing the quality of products like we do.”

The brand is concentrating on online sales the most. Having served 1000’s of customers, Hungry Bums has earned a sizeable customer base owing to its superior quality and impeccable service. The start-up maintains a database of 2000+ clients(which are only its regular WhatsApp clients). In addition to this, other online portals, websites and exhibitions have successfully garnered huge appreciation and eyeballs for the brand and they have all played a huge part in the success of this extraordinary venture.

Let’s Roll: This 18 year old entrepreneur is serving the most delicious sushi and desserts from her home kitchen

Let's Roll

Amishi Jain is an 18 year old entrepreneur who started a Sushi Delivery Business in Pune, named Let’s Roll. She is currently an undergraduate student at Babson College in Boston and is majoring in Entrepreneurship and Marketing. Amishi identified the lack of vegetarian sushi options in her city, more so during the lockdown, and decided to utilize her knack of cooking to find potential in this area of the food market.

Amishi started operating from her home kitchen and opened with a brief menu with just 3-4 options of sushi, as a way to use her time productively throughout the months she deferred her university admission. Today the Let’s Roll Menu has over 14 sushi options, sushi cakes and desserts! Handled majorly by the 18 year old and her 3 employees, Let’s Roll seems to have transitioned into a more permanent factor in her life with a large customer base and sales crossing $15,000 and in less than 7 months of operations. What started off as an experiment is now a path the young entrepreneur considers to pursue after her graduation.

“Business has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can recall.  I vividly remember listening to my father and grandfather passionately discuss their company and the impact economic changes were having on it. Big words like ‘investment’, ‘business cycle’, ‘market value’ puzzled my childish but intrigued mind.”

Amishi’s business-oriented family soon had her involved in most of their discussions and asked her opinion before making decisions at their organization. This exposure not only triggered a love for the subject of entrepreneurship but also yielded great results in school; topping her class in the Business Studies CIE final exam (2018), the IB Business Management Final exam (2020) and being awarded the Dean’s List Certificate for Academic Excellence at Babson College (2021).

Honing and executing one of the vital qualities of an entrepreneur- innovative- Amishi is the pioneer and starter of Sushi Cakes in Pune. She has not only introduced the idea of it to the wide spectrum of customers but has also lured several competitors into the market. Eventually, she started to add a variety of desserts such as brownies, cheesecakes and cookies, flourishing in a whole new section of the market.

It is unlikely for an 18 year old to find time when juggling between the IB curriculum, SAT classes, career counselling and social life. “The pandemic is/was a bane for most, but a boon for me.” says Amishi. She found the time to discover her talent in cooking and the scope to commence her own venture. Amishi is now looking at employing more staff and moving into a cloud kitchen as she plans for Let’s Roll’s smooth functioning during her absence upon returning to Boston for her education.

“Entrepreneurship inspires me due to its numerous opportunities, possibilities for success and space for creative thinking.”

Ok Boss: Your Personal Assistant and Errand Runner

Ok Boss

Everyone needs a ‘little help’, to finish up things.  Time and resourcing for day-to-day errands is a regular challenge for any individual irrespective of age, profession or other demographics.  A common issue both individuals and small businesses face is resourcing reliable personnel on short notice for errand work.

OK BOSS is that Personal Assistant / Helper / Errand Runner who does everything to make life easier for everyone.  In the post-pandemic world, a Personal Assistant is a ‘Must Have’ to delegate day to day work, so other important things like Health and Family can be focused upon.

Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile” ~ Albert Einstein

The joy that comes out of helping people in need at the right time, cannot be measured in words or money. Especially when you extend a helping hand to senior citizens or other vulnerable sections of people who struggle with even the most basic and commonplace errands, the satisfaction is of a different level altogether.

Launched on 1st June 2020 by Chennai-born entrepreneur Shoba Alladi, Ok Boss is a unique, one-stop shop for all errands and bespoke services. It endeavors to bring together and integrate an unorganised supplier market to provide on-demand services to consumers and small businesses.

Consolidated Personal Assistant / Errand services App is not widely available in India.  There are multiple Apps for multiple services – Food / Groceries / Household / Elder Care / Pets / Automobiles etc.  OK BOSS brings in all these and more under one Service Bouquet.

Many people, especially Senior Citizens have difficulties using technology with multiple Apps offering varying UXPs.  OK BOSS has a parallel Contact Centre in addition to the Mobile & Web platforms, thereby giving Customers a personalised experience.

How one idea changed many lives

The idea germinated through the founder’s personal experience.  Her parents and their peer group in Chennai had a good, self-sufficient life. However, with age and weakening health conditions, it became difficult to manage daily chores and errands. Senior-citizen specialised services came with a big annual subscription fees and most elderly people required help only on ad-hoc and need basis.

NRIs too faced challenges in procuring and using local suppliers for various errands related to their parents or their own needs.

Finally Shoba put her comprehensive educational background (Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Project Management Professional (PMP), MBA Banking & Finance) and two decades of international retail finance experience to good use and decided to set up a ‘Personal Assistant / Errand Runner’ enterprise which wouldn’t just be a delivery service but provide ‘Value-Added’ services and a ‘Personal touch’.

OK BOSS was born with the belief that the customer is the Boss, thus whatever he/she says shall be fulfilled to their satisfaction.

Ok Boss : Your personal assistant and errand runner

OK BOSS is the One-Stop-Shop that  provides a consolidated list of errand services such as food, groceries, homecare and maintenance. Customers are given utmost care and tasks are done at their convenient time & place.  Documents are handled with secrecy, acknowledgments returned safely.  Tasks can be booked on the App or by just calling in. Besides web and mobile apps, the company has a full-fledged contact centre. With technological improvement, each customer’s behaviour is modelled and tailor-made products are offered.

During the pandemic, Ok Boss warriors hit the streets to deliver food and medication to Covid patients thus making their presence felt where it mattered the most.

Purchasing and delivering Baby essentials to a new Mom & new born baby, Procuring sanitary items for Senior citizens… these people just cannot venture out.

We took on the logistics support for SMBs, so they could focus on improving their business.  Their raw materials were procured and their finished products were delivered to their Customers.
