Providing education is real test, but nurturing and running an institution is a challenge of its own (Dr. Tabrez Ahmad)

Teachers have been known to be portals of knowledge since time immemorial. Passing knowledge down generations the status of the teacher or the Guru, has only gained in lustre. (Dr. Tabrez Ahmad)

A sterling example of this is Prof (Dr.) Tabrez Ahmad – Vice Chancellor and Dean, School of Law at GD Goenka University, who brings to the table over 2 decades of hands on education sector experience.

After passing out from AMU Aligarh, Dr. Tabrez got apprenticed by Praveen Anand of Anand and Anand Law firm and later got appointed to NUJS Kolkata by Padma Bhushan Prof. (Dr.) N R Madhava Menon.

Having transitioned to academics, Dr. Tabrez worked in an academic and administrative capacity at several places like NUJS Kolkata, KIIT Bhubaneshwar and is today a figure acknowledged for Building, Driving and Refining institutions. He was the founding director of the Alliance Law School, Bangalore.

On shifting to UPES Dehradun, where he worked tirelessly from 2013 to 2019, he increased the roll call of students from 700 to 2000+ and raised the programs from 3 to 15.

After having served as a Pro VC at the Galgotias University, he was appointed Vice Chancellor of GD Goenka University in the year 2020.

Elaborating on his role Dr. Tabrez said” I am constantly working on developing the learning experience at the University by bringing in a lot of experiments, encouraging student engagements, faculty engagements, trying to bring new programs, and move things up to the next level.”

Transforming the thought process and the learning methodology is the need of the hour

GD Goenka University

Dr. Tabrez Ahmad specialization is Law. He holds a PhD in Cyber law and IPR. At G. D. Goenka, the challenge ahead is to manage the University which is truly multi-disciplinary and a center of excellence in higher education.

With online education rapidly entering mainstream Dr. Tabrez now has shifted his attention to examine and prepare for the challenges the online medium will bring to the law sector. The entire focus is on delivering genuine, outcome based learning with an enhanced curriculum. Early counselling and evaluation through the system of overall performance index model from the second year itself has helped placements. Recognitions naturally followed.

In 2019 awarded “Top 50 IP Players” by IPR Gorilla USA. Also awarded as the best Keynote speaker SIETIIE 2019. Recently APAC News Network awarded him as one of the exceptional academicians who brought changes in the higher education sector.

Online Education is a game changer but Offline Education is equally important

GD Goenka University

“With a focus on key areas of delivering knowledge and creating a well-rounded student pool our target is to become the No. 1 University in next 5 years,” shares Dr. Tabrez Ahmad.

What holds the key to this is an optimized mix of offline and online mode of education. What the way ahead looks like is – theoretical study can be in online mode. But where analysis, creativity, comparative studies and peer interactions are required, it has to be offline.

Also plans are there to invite industry experts, working professionals and practicing lawyers and judges who can raise the quality of the teaching and learning process.

Orrish Era- Where Beauty Meets Nature

Skincare isn’t a luxury, it’s an investment.

Indian Cosmetics Going Local, Natural And Organic

Orrish Era

The booming Indian cosmetics market is stormed by home-grown brands that promise to pamper Indian skin with the goodness of local, natural, and organic products. A growing movement away from chemical to natural — and, by association, safer — ingredients have seen companies tap into the country’s centuries-old repertoire of ayurvedic and other organic remedies for their formulations.

Natural and organic cosmetics are greatly influencing and changing the cosmetics panorama. They are not just beauty products, but a recreation of nature in perfect harmony with our bodies and our world.

Orrish Era

Today just like food, consumers wish to know more about where their cosmetics are coming from, what goes into them, and what ingredients work well for their specific needs and problems. An increasing number of consumers expect to find sustainable, environmental friendly with ethical qualities in the cosmetics they purchase.

Conventional cosmetics frequently contain a high percentage of petroleum-based ingredients, parabens, and other chemicals. To address the growing need for natural and organic beauty products, a brand that is buzzing on social media platforms is the “ORRISH ERA – Blossom with Grace”.” It is a home-based startup led by A.Anuja & M.Sakshi which is one of the most viable brands for those who believe in using nature’s best resources for their everyday skincare regimen. The brand name “ORRISH ERA” signifies the English name of Lord Krishna.

So What Makes Their Product So Exclusive & Unique

Orrish Era

The brand offers a myriad of personal care products such as goat milk based handcrafted soaps like Lavender Lush, Lemongrass bar, Ubtan Soap, Coal-Soul Soap and Shea Butter Soaps etc that maintain the right Ph balance for skincare; which one can use on his / her face as well.

Orrish Era

Orrish Era features a plethora of face serums like Kumkumadi Night Repair Serum & Jojoba Glow Serum etc according to skin type. And their Hibiscus hair oil is a unique blend of the best ingredients for hair like Hibiscus, Curry leaves, Amla, Aloe vera, Fenugreek, and many more with Coconut oil. Also the neem, aloe vera and lemon based hand gel sanitizer has its own unique selling proposition due to its skin – friendly properties.

Orrish Era

All the products under the Orrish Era brand banner are chemical-free and toxic-free. They use traditional processes and natural ingredients like plant extracts, clays, herbs infusion, and steam distilled essential oils in all their formulations. By sourcing all their ingredients from the local producers, they provide them with means of sustenance and contribute to the socio- environment harmony & well-being.

The Catalysts Behind The Brand Conceptualization

Orrish Era

Both the Womenpreneurs of the Orrish Era have worked with marquee Corporate Houses before they launched their own business. M.Sakshi, a Computer Engineer has worked with HCL Technologies and her partner A.Anuja, an MBA in Finance Stream has worked with ICICI Prudential & PNB MetLife.

The similarity in both the profiles was the frequent place shifts occurring due to promotions and that was not a feasible option with their respective families. They discussed and brainstormed on starting something of their own which would be organic and eco-friendly. The whole idea germinated during one of the morning walks of launching their own naturalesque brand “ORRISH ERA – Blossom with Grace.”

In September 2019, M.Sakshi & A.Anuja jointly founded the “Orrish Era” in Hoshiarpur, Punjab.

The Growing Pace Of Business & The Futuristic Goals

Orrish Era

The brand sells products through its website and has also partnered with Amazon and Flipkart for their online sales. The Instagram & Facebook page is loaded with their glowing skincare ranges and events such as La Feria, Gullak, The Wardrobe Story, Boss Ladies and many more such events gives them a good customer base.

All this would not have been possible without the immense support and encouragement received from their respective families. Both of their siblings helped the brand in their growth strategy, execution and promoting their brand on social platforms. Their contribution has played a major role in the success of Orrish Era.

The brand has reached Pan India and global markets. The company envisions to grow and expand their brand and continue to launch quality products suitable for specific client needs.

Doggobits: With this natural and nutritious dog food brand, we ensure that your dog’s health and happiness is in the best hands.

“A dog doesn’t care if you’re rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.” Nothing sums up a dogs love better than this quote by John Grogan.

Often known as man’s best friend, a dog is one of man’s most faithful companions and also his most fierce protector. It is precisely these qualities that make a dog an ideal pet. For those who are pet owners, a dog is treated as a family member and showered with love and affection. But how does one make sure that the nutritious needs of their pets are also taken care of.

It’s not just food which needs to be healthy but snacking can be healthy too. Also, how does one care for an ailing pet in the current market scenario? What kinds of food is available in the Indian market? Does it provide all the necessary nutrition that a dog requires?

Doggobits

The answer to all these questions lies in Doggobits. Launched in the year 2020 by Namrata in Bangalore, Doggobits a one stop shop for all your doggy needs. As a dog mom to three dogs herself, Namrata has a fair idea of what dogs need in terms of care and nourishment. Her family is a complete pet loving family as even her children love the dogs like their own siblings. But it is her own journey with her dogs that led her to create a healthy and organic product for all dogs.

“My dog was diagnosed with cancer when I realized that the products available in the market were not sufficient to feed an ailing animal. Seeing her suffer used to give me immense pain and I felt absolutely helpless as my hands were tied. We tried a number of treatments and medicines to cure her but they were all in vain. After I lost my dog, I decided that I had to do something to help dogs get better nutrition so that they could be taken care of in a better manner. I wanted to do my best in ensuring that no dog has to suffer due to poor nutrition,” explains Namrata.

Leaving paw prints across the country

Doggobits

Doggobits was the result of months of research and understanding into what ingredients can be safe for a dog. It offers cookies, cakes, cupcakes, liver chunks chicken jerky and Meatrix made by 100% organic raw materials. No additional chemicals or preservatives are added making them not only a delicious but also healthy treat. This all natural treat is a step closer to improving the overall health of dogs in India.

The brand has become a hit with pet owners as Namrata has grown from receiving 1 order a day to almost 25 orders in one single day in the span of 2 years. Doggobits is single handedly managed by Namrata from sourcing, production, packaging as well as business development.

Doggobits

“I am happy to see that pet owners have responded well to my brand. This just goes to show that there is a market for those looking for all natural, good quality dog food. I hope that Doggobits sees exponential growth and I am able to service a wide range of consumers,” concludes Namrata.

Freesia By Saumya- The Right Fusion of Haute Couture And Ethnicity

“Fashion is a language that creates itself in clothes to interpret reality.”-Karl Lagerfeld

The Next Wave in the Indian Apparel Market

There has been a significant shift in the customers’ fashion choices and they now prefer apparel that offers the right blend of traditional and contemporary styles. This has prompted retailers and designers to adapt their business models to accommodate this demand. Both demographic and psychographic transformation is causing a noticeable shift in fit, preference, and product uniqueness in the Indian apparel industry. This was previously deeply rooted in the vastness and richness of Indian culture.

Custom clothing offers buyers the satisfaction of knowing that they own apparel that is unique to their style and personality, as opposed to ready-made brands.

The emergence of fusion wear has revolutionized the Indian fashion industry. Women, today want contemporary styles and vintage charm to blend and thus Indo-western wear is fast catching up. The segment primarily stands as an amalgamation of ethnic and western styles to offer an innovative solution to the changing fashion taste of Indian women. This genre refers to silhouettes that are inspired by western fashion trends and patterns and yet rely heavily on Indian fashion sensibilities in terms of prints, fabrics, and overall styling.

Freesia By Saumya

Bet you can’t take your eyes off Moirra’s rich collection of exquisitely crafted fabric-based jewelry

“Give a girl the right jewelry and she can conquer the world.”

Often considered the most important accessory that a girl can possess, jewelry has the power to transform, not just the outward appearance, but also the real individual beneath the personality. As they say, never underestimate what the right piece of jewelry can do to elevate your style quotient and inner confidence.

Moirra's

Given its undisputed popularity and timeless appeal, jewelry continues to be most women’s go-to accessory when it comes to expressing their style and creativity.

Moirra's

Let’s talk about a brand that’s redefining fashion jewelry in its own distinct ways.  Launched in January 2019 by Gurgaon based entrepreneur Ramika, Moirra offers a unique collection of eco-friendly, handcrafted jewelry that strives to incorporate the beautiful motifs and embroidery into their creations, thus rendering an unmatched charm into each of their statement pieces.

All that Moirra aims for is to be able to depict the richness and purity of Indian heritage as also the incredible craftsmanship of Indian artisans.

Carving her own path, just like her mother

Moirra's

Like any other independent enterprise, Moirra is a culmination of extensive planning, hard work and a strong desire to do “something different”. Ramika started her entrepreneurial journey on the sidelines while still working in another company. It was during the pandemic that Moirra became her sole focus.

But how did it all begin? As Ramika grew up watching her mother run a boutique for kid’s clothing, she felt inspired to follow in her footsteps and create her own venture.

Ramika’s love for fabrics and designs can be traced back to her childhood when she watched her mother create magic with fabrics of all kinds. Later on, it was Ramika’s sister who first recognised her creativity and passion. She suggested “Why don’t you put your interest in a professional way in doing something unique?” That’s how a startup was born.

Moirra: Jewelry with an embroidered twist

Moirra's

What makes Moirra irreplaceable is its exclusive range of fabric-based, handcrafted jewelry inspired by India’s rich legacy and classic art works. The eternal charm of Indian embroidery, described by Ramika as “paintings with needle and thread”, is skillfully utilized in its jewelry collections.

A Moirra jewelry can lend beauty and elegance to even the plainest of attires, thus making you stand out from the rest. So whether it’s an ethnic look or a contemporary one, Moirra never disappoints.

The brand firmly believes in the enduring appeal of handmade art developed painstakingly by talented local artisans. Furthermore, Moirra walks the path of sustainability and zero wastage.

Moirra's

Ramika points out “We try our best to use waste fabric as our base. Also, we try to ensure zero wastage so we utilize them as either the back of our products or as earnings and broaches.” Its latest collection is inspired by beautiful Kashmiri motifs that are deftly infused with embroidery and metallic zari.

What lies ahead

Moirra's

The Gurgaon-based startup launched its website in August last year. It has collaborated with some prominent stores in Bangalore. Talks are on for extending its operations in Mumbai. Among its customers are a few eminent YouTubers and social media influencers who have showered love on Moirra jewelry.

Before signing off..

Moirra's

The pandemic turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Ramika and her startup. During this period, the company witnessed a steady growth and by the end of 2020, “business started picking up considerable pace”. Ramika is confident of overcoming all hurdles that her dearest Moirra may encounter in future.

Nishtha’s Handmade – A testimony to the adage that it’s never too late to learn and begin something new!

The enterprise Nishtha’s Handmade is truly a story being built on the fuel of lots of enthusiasm, solid determination and of course oodles of creativity.

The entrepreneurial venture of Nishtha Suri, a teacher in Faridabad who decided to follow her passion at the age of 54 with a capital investment of 10K.  The business commenced operations on 6th Oct 2019, with a product portfolio that consisted of items made exclusively by the art of crochet.

Nishtha’s Handmade

For Nishtha crochet is more like a soothing therapy. “Crochet has given me an outlet. Whenever I pick up the hook and challenge myself to crochet something new, I can feel the anxiousness oozing out of my hands,” is what she says. At the same time this has resulted into the creation of graceful crochet earrings, macrame mandala mirrors, embroidered hoops, or any other home décor.

Nishtha’s Handmade

The vision, or you could also say that the whole purpose of the enterprise is to spread the very beautiful and relaxing art of crochet across the country and also to generate positive sentiment for the crochet artists. The message that Nishtha also wants to share is that, “products created from the art of crochet, are really worth the money a customer pays because they last for a lifetime, and this longevity of crochet, macrame & embroidered products is what enables artists to get the true worth of the hard work that they put in to create every piece.”

Creating crochet art that has everyone hooked!

Nishtha’s Handmade

Nishtha’s Handmade started off with a bulk order of 50 pairs of earrings after her daughter had casually posted the picture of a crochet earring on Instagram. When After crochet, Nishtha laid her hands on macrame that she had learned various decades ago and made a macramé pot hanger which is making things move faster.

This opened up fresh new business as well as creative avenues. Nishtha realized that there were a lot of possibilities in a handicraft business when people started to order different items.

Nishtha’s Handmade

For example, a relative of hers from the USA placed an order for a crocheted bralette. “When I started to put crochet hook and yarn together to create the bralette, I really thought oh my god someone is going to wear what I am creating,” recalls Nishtha. But today she has fulfilled a bulk order for the same product.

Nishtha’s Handmade also has cute, comfortable, and colorful products like cup cozies, face masks, macramé plant holders for big, medium, small plants, coasters and doilies, cute trinket dishes, and also a range of winter wear like beanies, mufflers, socks, and gloves. Crocheted hoop earrings & Macrame Air Shelves are amongst her bestsellers.

Nishtha’s Handmade – Art that has got appreciation and now is set to explore a larger dimension

Nishtha’s Handmade

“From the time of beginning operations and till date, my emphasis has been upon creating beautiful decor as well as personal wearable items that are distinctive in every aspect,” says Nishtha.

This uniqueness has seen the brand experience exponential growth in its customer base. The number of customers who have bought and experienced the beauty of Nishtha’s creations reached a healthy 200+ and is growing by the day.

The next logical step is exploring international avenues and establishing a strong presence on all leading e-commerce platforms which can help the brand reach out to more customers.

Nishtha’s Handmade

Nishtha also has a stirring message for every startup “Orders do not define our worth. Orders are not validation or certificates that define our art. Our own deep satisfaction of what we create is the only validation we need.”

Shikha Stitchery: An Embroidery Business That Is Taking Over The World One Stitch At A Time

The lost art of stitching is one of the most therapeutic activities that you can undertake. The sharpness of a needle pairs beautifully with the supple nature of the colourful threads to create unique art work that is a treat to the eyes. Embroidery was originally associated with garments as it was used to create colourful motifs on plain fabrics. Thus, embroidered ethnic wear has been a great hit with Indian audiences. However, the beauty of embroidery has spilled over onto several other product categories. You can now see embroidered bags, wallets, make up pouches, handkerchiefs, pillow cases and bedsheets, home décor items and even embroidered face masks!

With such innovation, Shikha decided to capitalize on the current trend and start her business that offers a flurry of customized products that feature beautifully embroidered motifs. At the age of 23, in April 2020, Shikha decided to monetize her lifelong hobby of embroidery when she gifted her friend a handmade, embroidered memento which was very well received.

Brand USP

Shikha Stitchery

The lockdown proved to be a great time for Shikha to perfect her craft. “During the pandemic I took the time to learn various stitching techniques and also finally set up my business which I had planned to do for so many years. Since all my products are handmade, I can customize each product as per the client’s requirement and make it a valuable keepsake for them. I think the element of personalization is what sets Shikha Stitchery apart from any other brand,” explains Shikha. The brand offers a range of products that include wedding hoops of various kinds, leaf embroidery, photo embroidery, canvas embroidery, fabric embroidery (clothes), vintage frames and other forms of embroidered gifts.

Shikha Stitchery

A teacher by profession, Shikha has completed her B.Ed and was working in a school but was never really satisfied with her profession. So she started embroidery as a hobby and began posting her work onto Instagram. “Soon, a lady from Gurgaon approached me and asked me to create an embroidered mask for her. I explained to her that I am not currently taking orders, but she was insistent. So I created this mask for her and she was so happy with the result that she started recommending me to her loved ones. Soon I was flooded with orders and actress Avantika Mohan even gave me a shout out which propelled my business even further,” says Shikha.

Scaling New Heights

Shikha Stitchery

After her first celebrity order, there was no looking back. Shikha Stitchery has successfully served more than 500 customers and even got inquiries from brides for their wedding hoops. The brand understands each individual client’s requirement and accordingly curates a product that is just for them. Shikha Stitchery aims to expand its footprint by participating in art exhibitions across the country. They also plan to work with bigger brands and foray into the clothing segment.

“I plan to employ more women who can help me in embroidery thus creating a wider audience for my art and also empowering women to stand on their own feet. Shikha Stitchery began when my clients had greater belief in me than I had in myself. So I owe it to my creativity to explore it to its highest potential.”

Perhaps the most surprising part of Shikha Stitchery’s journey is that the brand was started in Shikha’s own residence using old needles and threads borrowed from her mother!

Big Food Co. – Hosting a party? This cloud kitchen will deliver an unforgettable feast at your doorstep.

What is the most memorable thing about a party? Is it the music? The location? The crowd or the food? If you picked the last option then the following start up is right up your alley. A celebration of good food along with affordable prices is the USP of Big Food Co. founded by Abhay Harwani in September 2019. Catering to the young and energetic, Big Food Co. provides sumptuous dishes that are big on flavor and sure to be crowd pleasers.

Big Food Co.

Hailing from a family of caterers who have been in the food industry since the past 30 years, Abhay was used to catering for weddings and corporate events up to 5000 guests. However, he noticed that there was no dedicated service that catered to smaller events like house parties and other intimate gatherings. The other players in the market either don’t have a processed system or lack the quantity to take up these orders as they do not have a dedicated segment that focuses solely on this. So with an aim to fill the gap in the market, Abhay began catering bulk food deliveries for house parties and small gatherings at the age of 29.

Big on Flavour, Light on the Pocket

Big Food Co.

The Big Food Co. offers a vast range of dishes to choose from. One of their best selling items is the prepackaged meal boxes. These boxes contain mostly Indian food that sits within tightly sealed containers that do not leak or spill. A single box costs Rs 300.
“Until now, we have fulfilled more than 100 orders of such boxes and have received a great response from our clients. For a more professional touch, we even provide the food in glass bowls on request,” says the founder.

Big Food Co.

True to its name, Big Food Co. caters to bulk orders for parties and offers dishes by the kilo. “Clients can choose from a variety of dishes that we serve by the kilo. Biryani is one of the most popular items so we serve it in buckets. For a smaller gathering, clients can opt for a small bucket and for a full-fledged party scene, big bucket it is. Our prices are not more than Rs 400 – 600 per dish for large portions and this makes us a favorite amongst youngsters who want delicious food at pocket friendly prices,” explains Abhay.

Making a Mark

Big Food Co.

The brand offers its food through various food delivery apps like zomato, swiggy, radyes & thrive along with their own website within Mumbai. Having gotten orders from corporate clients like L’Oreal, GRA, ABI Lighting and IGI, Big Food Co. is certainly a hit at parties. As the brand has grown it has amassed roughly 300 orders per month and is seeing a continued rise in popularity. Abhay also hopes to dabble into the elite mini buffet space as it is another key component to the current services. “We are looking at being a one stop party solution for our clients and would love to be a part of all their happy occasions,” concludes Abhay.
