CosmoGene: Discover your holy grail skincare routine with India’s first DNA based skincare program.

Skincare is an essential aspect of self-care. After spending years turning a blind eye to skin care needs, people are realizing the need to incorporate the right products into their skincare regimen, products that suit their specific skin types and are free from harsh chemicals. However, before hopping on to a shopping spree, it would be prudent to try and understand your skin’s genetic makeup.

Launched on 15th November 2022 by Mohd Rizwan Younus and Dr. M Sai Babu, CosmoGene is a unique initiative that uses the science of genomics to identify key pathways affected in aging skin, to be able to generate highly personalized and accurate recommendations of cosmetic products that improve your skin’s overall health and eliminate the aging process. The brand is committed towards making this more affordable and accessible to all.

How CosmoGene’s journey started

CosmoGene

CosmoGene Skin Care has been founded with the intention of helping people know their skin inside out. With a deluge of products available in the market, one can’t be blamed for getting confused and picking up random stuff with fancy catchlines and smart packaging. In an attempt to address this problem, Mohd Rizwan Younus and Dr. M Sal Babu decided to establish India’s first DNA-based skincare program and that’s how CosmoGene came into existence.

There may be a lot of skincare products in the market but only a few are meant for you. Because each skin is unique, a cream or treatment that works well for someone else might be a disaster for you. You need to understand how your skin responds to environmental factors such as sun exposure and which specific skin care ingredients are best suited to your skin profile. CosmoGene’s DNA tests can shed new light on your skin’s exact needs and provide all the answers you need.

Take the guesswork out of caring for your skin!

CosmoGene

CosmoGene is a science-based DNA program that identifies your skin’s genetic potential in five key areas : collagen quality, fine lines & wrinkles, sun protection & pigmentation, free radicals and skin sensitivity. Simply take the easy, at-home test and in just a few weeks you will receive a comprehensive genetic report from the lab that gives you personalized recommendations based on your unique DNA – for the most effective topical ingredients and professional treatments.

Kit contents include easy-to-follow instructions and cheek swabs for DNA collections. Results will be ready in just 2 weeks from receipt of samples at the lab. The founders explain “We let the client know exactly in what way their skin is aging; it can be wrinkling pigmentation or a collagen breakdown. Our personalized report suggests which product is suitable for them and what kind of professional treatment is required. Though quite common in the western countries, such DNA-based skin tests have been unheard of in India.

Skin goals for now and the future

CosmoGene tests are pretty affordable given the high-end technologies required to conduct them. The brand is already making waves in the market with their scientific approach towards skin health. Since the tests are a one-time scenario that remains relevant all through your lifetime, it’s prudent to hear what your skin is trying to tell you.

The Balcony Palette- Paintings That Adds The Perfect Look To Your Space

The Balcony Palette

“Painting is an illusion, a piece of magic, so what you see is not what you see.”-Philip Guston.

“A painting is never finished – it simply stops in interesting places.” – Paul Gardner

Paintings Are Still The Strongest Ways Of Expressing The Unspoken

The Balcony Palette

Around the world, art has stood the test of time. In India, paintings comprise 99% of the art market. Indian households, which earlier used to have paintings of religious significance to adorn their walls, have now grown a taste for exotic themes.

When it comes to artwork, every artist has his style of painting – be it impressionist, expressionist, abstract, the Tanjore and Madhubani styles of painting, or even the traditional Maori style – and every piece of art has a story behind it, behind the style and theme. Given the rising popularity of art in Indian homes, paintings are a great business opportunity. While volumes remain low, there are decent margins to be made in imports of hand-made paintings, be it high-end exclusive pieces or low-priced machine or hand-made lookalikes that adorn the walls of regular Indian homes.

The Balcony Palette

Bringing such unique & mesmerizing paintings to adorn your living spaces with a dash of dynamism, vibrancy & aesthetics is a startup firm called The Balcony Palette founded by Priyanka K in 2022. The brand offers acrylic paintings, sketch paintings and illustrative paintings depicted both on canvas & sheets. They have also launched bookmark products and also developing art forms with various mediums.

From Ideation To Execution- The Founder’s Story & Vision

The Balcony Palette

Priyanka was always drawn to paintings since her childhood days and her studies and graduation kept her busy with academic routines. It was only in 2016 that she followed her passion back again & undertook painting different art forms. This unplanned entrepreneurship started taking it took its full bloom with affirmations & appreciation from family and friends who encouraged her to portray the collections at art exhibitions and reach out to the masses through social media. It was only in the year 2022 that this budding & talented 24-year businesswoman launched her brand “The Balcony Palette”. With a small investment in sketchbooks and acrylic colours, she set out on a journey of following an occupation that defined her skills and nurtured her dreams. Within a short span, her Instagram account got flooded with appreciation and client reviews, positive responses and consistent orders. The brand has happily painted the lives of 21+ art lovers with its vibrant hues and beautiful sketched paintings on different canvases.

The Balcony Palette

Five years down the line, the brand envisions not only growing double in terms of market share & revenues but also creating goodwill and gaining mindshare. Reaching out to customers and making an impression in their hearts with their paintings is another imperative goal the brand aims to achieve.

Painting Is An Opportune Space But Has Its Share Of Flips Too

The Balcony Palette

In today’s world, where India is seeing a whopping upturn in sales, contemporary artists are finding difficulty in selling their paintings. Selling the paintings is more of a problem for those artists who are a novice. It is so probably because art enthusiasts and collectors are flooded with various kinds of paintings and artefacts to choose from. The options are so many that the works of the new and emerging contemporary artists get overlooked or go unnoticed because of the works of the established artists.

The Balcony Palette

Sharing her experiential journey from 2016 till 2022 when she launched her brand, Priyanka states, “Earlier when I started in 2016, I uploaded my painting on different art selling platforms and did not get great responses from sites that allow artists to sell their paintings. My friends & family encouraged me a lot, and after consistent efforts, I tried my luck on Instagram keeping a daily eye on trends, customer preferences and responses. As an artist, taking photographs and photoshoots and handling multiple things has been a herculean task. While capturing the exact painting the way it is with a camera lens, I personally don’t feel satisfied because the exact beauty of the painting is very difficult to capture. As always, I view art from the customer’s point of view while selling and while painting I am an artist with liberty of thoughts. It was only gradually that I understood the intricacies of the photos and made sure that whatever I painted using colours of different shades should look exactly the way it got depicted in pictures. All the challenges helped me get better in my work and now I have customers who are elated & satisfied with my work and I curate my work according to their needs.”

Lagom India: This Sustainability Focused Start Up Will Beautify Your Home and Without Harming The Planet

Sustainability is the current buzzword that is generating a lot of chatter. Be it environmentally conscious decisions in one’s daily life or even the need for suitability in business, one thing is clear- the future must be sustainable. A growing number of organizations are integrating sustainability into their business strategy—realizing they can do well by doing good. In business, sustainability refers to doing business without negatively impacting the environment, community, or society as a whole. The goal of a sustainable business strategy is to make a positive impact on at least one of those areas. When companies fail to assume responsibility, the opposite can happen, leading to issues like environmental degradation, inequality, and social injustice.

The Lagom life

With an aim to take sustainability a step further, Indian mom turned entrepreneur Natasha began her venture Lagom India, which is a platform that engages with local artisans and rural women to create upcycled, traditional and artisanal products from Malabar. Natasha’s husband is a fourth generation organic farmer by choice. He has over 200 coconut trees apart from other local varieties of fruit and grain. The coconuts are used to make wood pressed coconut oil for home use, the shells of the coconuts are often discarded as they are of no use post the process of oil extraction. “We have so much wastage of these shells every year so I finally decided that something has to be done in order to combat this wastage,” shares Natasha.

Aiming High, After flying high

The Lagom life

So in 2021, with an initial investment of Rs 5 lakh, this mother of a toddler decided to use discarded coconut shells to create beautiful artefacts and homemade products that add a touch of Malabar to every home through her start up called Lagom India. Here you will find a range of products- soap dishes, hanging lanterns, water goblets, bowls and much more. Additionally they also sell traditional south Indian delicacies like banana chips, murukus, masala podis and so on.

The Lagom life

Perhaps one of the most surprising things about Natasha is that she is a Captain trained on 3 different aircraft’s and has been working with major domestic airline since the past 15 years! Natasha says, “I decided to take a sabbatical from flying post the birth of my son and focus on something else that I felt strongly about. I had shifted to a mindful way of living a few years ago, where I would not consume fast moving, toxic products, however the pandemic really made me realize how important sustainability is the need of the hour. We are currently in the midst of a major change in what people eat and in the way they eat because traditional eating has been related to positive health outcomes and sustainability.”

Mindful Consumption

The Lagom life

Lagom India products are available online and through its official Instagram handle. The brand ships its products across India and had successfully fulfilled more than 100 orders per month. When asked what her plan is for the growth of  Lagom India, Natasha says, “We are really passionate about mindful living and reusing products. We want to infuse the thought of sustainability into the minds of our consumers so that even a small step towards sustainability can create a huge impact on the overall health of the planet and ours. For Lagom in Swedish means, not too much, not too little, just right. We truly believe that sustainability shouldn’t be viewed as a burden but simply as a set of different viable and alternative choices.

Explore the beauty of minimalism with Milimeter’s home decor products

Milimeter

Creativity means different things to different people but what matters most is how you carve something extraordinary out of the ordinary, cutting out the excesses and making use of just what’s needed. It’s this core philosophy of Amritanshu’s vision that aims to fulfill the needs of people while retaining the simplification of products.

Milimeter

Launched in May 2021, Milimeter is an experimental studio that designs and develops beautiful handmade products for home decor and utilities, ensuring they toe the line of simplicity and sophistication. Though the brand is doing ceramics right now, it intends to dabble in different types of materials including metal, wood, glass, sculptures & furniture in the coming months. Helping people realize the beauty of simple products and creating awareness about good and bad designs are some of the things that Amritanshu aspires to achieve through his venture.

When you chase dreams, magic happens

The plunge into entrepreneurship happened a year ago when 28-year-old Amritanshu began to nurture ideas about creating his own line of products. After graduating from NIFT in 2016, he had started working in a firm as a product designer and furniture designer. He always craved to create something of his own.

It was during the lockdown when new ideas emerged and Amritanshu decided to answer the heart’s calling by launching his own startup using his savings and monthly salary as investments. He further explains “I designed some vases which served as samples for potential clients. That is how I got the domain and that’s how the Instagram page came up.” Given the inconsistencies of life and the need to cover daily expenses, Amritanshu is growing the brand as a side business for now.

Milimeter

Moreover, being a one-man army, he’s taking things slow and focusing on acquiring new materials and establishing a studio. He adds “But as we move further, I want people to recognize the brand and join me.”

Milimeter, where simplicity is the key

Milimeter offers a wide range of handcrafted home decor products that stand out for elegant designs and simple, minimalistic aesthetics. The brand adopts a holistic approach to design using a variety of different materials. This allows Amritanshu to explore various avenues of crafting products instead of restricting his creativity to a particular medium. At the moment, emphasis is on ceramics as a material. Thus, you would find ceramic-based homeware products such as utensils like plates, cups, bowls, bakeware and glasses etc.

Milimeter

Soon Milimeter plans to come up with metallic sculptures, vases, glass products and furniture, thus covering all living goods and accessories. The Mohali-based brand is delivering products all across India and abroad too. As Amritanshu aptly puts it “We want to sell widely and keep it B2C. There are no boundaries.”

The startup is engaging with restaurants and coffee-houses owing to its beautiful assortment of ceramic products. Eventually the client base is expected to broaden as new products are introduced into the lineup.

Blueprint for the future

What makes Milimeter unique is its experimental approach that works on different materials while presenting great products in the line of simple designs. Momentum has picked up in the last six months with bulk orders and repeated customers.

When asked about the startup’s future goals, Amritanshu says “In the next 5 years I would like my startup to have a larger product range and grow monetarily by at least 8 or 10 times. Becoming a full-time entrepreneur is definitely on the cards so that Milimeter can be prioritized without any distraction.” In terms of growth, the strong-willed founder is determined to build a team of 20-30 like-minded people with relevant skill sets who are eager and enthusiastic to work towards a common goal.

RANG DHAAGA is a business that provides its consumers with a variety of stunning sarees and assurance of financial security to weavers.

A great vision finely woven with ample determination can make a world of difference. This is what the lady at the helm of RANG DHAAGA – Sudha Sengundhar – discovered, when after a lot of challenges in her personal and professional life, she decided to turn entrepreneur.

Hailing from Gujarat, she spotted great potential in marketing locally produced, beautiful handloom sarees, which were at that time overshadowed by chiffon and georgette fabrics.

“I decided to be the brand ambassador who would be the face of handloom sarees in Gujrat. I wanted to become a medium between people & handloom weavers.” Says Sudha.

Investing her entire savings of Rs. 50000 and borrowing a tidy sum too, Sudha booked a stall in an exhibition under the name of “Woman’s Choice” at Ahmedabad. The exhibition was a flop and it was a huge set back financially as well as emotionally.

Not the one to give up, Sudha switched to marketing the sarees on Facebook and Instagram, which saw the business slowly pick up. In 2020 her sister Vanitha came on board and the business was registered and rebranded from “Women’s Choice” to “Rang Dhaaga.”

Today Rang Dhaaga is the “go to portal” stocked with sarees hand woven by local artisans showcasing a unique confluence of region specific fabric, colour and design.

Vanitha shares that, “The business has made a huge difference in the perception of handloom sarees and the weaver community too has benefitted due to the business we regularly generate.”

Handloom sarees that are more than just that, they are in fact heirlooms…

The founders of RANG DHAAGA are totally aware of the labour and the creativity that goes into weaving a saree. Every saree is unique in design and freshly woven, with zero compromise on quality. This means a gift for every customer to treasure a saree that is as individual as their sense of fashion.

In fact the exquisite fabric, the hand block print, the motifs, matched with gorgeous bold borders and delicate zari work, all make for a saree that deserves to be handed down to generations! Pick from Cotton, Kanchi Cotton, Khadi or Khadi Silk, Linen, Satin and even Georgette, there is saree made to match for every occasion. Drape it and feel the comfort and fashion both envelop you!

Not just a business venture, a source from where every womanpreneur can draw inspiration from…

Having fulfilled the fashion dreams of more than 1000 customers, RANG DHAAGA today has reached across international fashion borders with clients in Malaysia and Canada. To strengthen and create a better life for the weaver community is a top priority. Simultaneously, taking RANG DHAAGA to the stature of a global brand is on the agenda of must do things too.

“Post pandemic, the challenges of growing the business have multiplied but me and my team are determined to continue to weave a success story. We want our brand to inspire women to take that first step, follow their heart, accept the challenges and discover their own potential,” says Sudha.

LORE: Take home these super-stylish and super-affordable juttis that’ll compliment every look you wish to sport!

The right footwear, just like the right accessory, can elevate your style quotient several notches higher. As shoes play an integral role in enhancing the overall look, you ought to be extra careful while choosing the right pair that’ll not just accentuate your style but also make heads turn!

While there’s no dearth of popular footwear brands in the market, not many integrate contemporary style with traditional designs to come up with something completely fresh and captivating. Here’s a brand that offers an unconventional take on ethnic juttis to give them a stylish and elegant look, thereby ensuring juttis’ enduring popularity for generations to come. Launched on 23rd August, 2019 by a Kerela-based entrepreneur Azia, LORE presents a seamless fusion of traditional juttis with modern aesthetics in a way that makes them suitable for all kinds of outfits. So, irrespective of what you pick up from your wardrobe, LORE has got just the right footwear for you.

LORE: For the love of juttis

Azia’s fondness for juttis dates back to her childhood days when those vibrant colors and quirky designs caught her attention. Later on, her pre-covid visit to Delhi rekindled that lost love for juttis and there was no escaping this love any more. Although Azia initially wanted to establish a clothing business, she changed her mind and decided her first business would be an ode to the everlasting charm and elegance of juttis.

She explains “I decided to start jutti business initally by buying products from re-sellers and wholesalers. As the business began to flourish, we began picking up authentic pieces from places in Punjab where they’re originally made.”

This collaboration with genuine karigars in Punjab was followed by the establishment of a multi-branded store in Azia’s Kochi. A year later, the second outlet came up in Bangalore. Now the brand is slowly but surely making its presence felt in these cities.

Say goodbye to bruised feet with super-comfy juttis

At LORE, you’ll get traditional juttis with a delightful twist! LORE is a leather footwear boutique that renders a regal aura to its incredible collection of juttis available at reasonable prices. Whether you opt for modest kolhapuris or choose to go glam in high-heels, these juttis will blend into all kinds of fashion trends.

The soles are made of premium-quality leather that’s quite unlike the hard and heavy leather you get in the market. The double-cushioned LORE leather is extremely durable yet gentle on your skin. The brand prioritizes comfort and quality above everything else so that you don’t have to worry about sore feet and painful blisters. The startup is spread all across Kochi and Bangalore and has served around 1500 customers till date.

LORE: Eyeing the future…

Encouraged by its soaring success, Azia plans to launch a few more outlets down South. LORE has collaborated with popular, Mumbai-based social-media influencer, Taruna Rathode for one of its latest ethnic collections. More such collaborations are on the way, all in an attempt to make this venture bigger and better so that it becomes the “go-to” brand for all kinds of juttis.
