Nothing but the best will do to create precious miniature items… Everything starts with a detailed sketch and then comes the main skill – scaling everything down to create the right shape and proportions. At CLAY N PASTELS, items are scaled down to 1/12 of the actual size of real-life products. This requires not only skill but also a lot of patience, as customization can sometimes take a lot of time.

What makes the miniatures from CLAY N PASTELS look so realistic and adorable is the quality of polymer clay used. “We use the best molding clay imported from the USA and Canada, which not only helps shape the products but is also color-friendly and more long-lasting,” says Prasanna.

The whole process takes around six to seven steps where the clay is first softened and then molded. After this, it is baked at a high temperature, cooled, buffed, sanded, varnished, and dried to get the final product.

Stating her journey and struggles, Aysha mentions, “I firmly believe that a passion in you can never die. It has to and will come out in one way or the other in due course. It is only a matter of time, and be it on your own accord or by a slight push from someone else to make you come out of your comfort zone and take that baby step to fill the void, your passion will take charge. For me, that push was my sister and my husband’s sister both of whom kept on hinting at starting a small-scale business of textile designing and sales. Encouraged, I took that leap of faith but had to start from scratch and that too in a foreign country where I had no one to guide me or take advice. However, when you know that you are right, by God’s grace, destiny brings like-minded and helpful people to you. Likewise, I got textile dealers who were ladies and homemakers, from Pakistan and India, through mutual friends and contacts. It was amazing to see how they were trying to be independent and support their families.

They are extremely honest, hardworking individuals and I feel great in encouraging them by believing in them. When passionate, determined, and supportive women get together, wonders can happen. Thus, I started my small venture by doing exhibitions, online pages, and WhatsApp groups and by taking up customised design works. I started my business, with the name ‘D’zineby Aysha Anees’, in 2010. I was doing my business purely online until February 2022. It was my lifelong dream to start a boutique and have my stitching unit so that I can do my designing without any constraints. That desire became strong by the middle of 2021. It was a big risk as it was during the most difficult time of the pandemic. There was a lot of discouragement and warnings, making me rethink multiple times about my decision. At the same time, I had the unbeatable support and love of my family, friends and customers. So I started ‘FAYRAH’, which means ‘the blessing/gift of God, in April 2022.”

To prove her skills and make a niche for her brand with the available resources in a foreign land was not a piece of cake! It was a long and exhausting process with multiple trials and errors at each step and getting the legal compliances in place. It took her almost 4 months to get all things done to transit from purely online sales to a physical store with the launch of her boutique “Fayrah”.

KALAKAAR ART STUDIO – The most creative art studio of the year 2022, launched by Artrepreneur Bhavika.

The art of painting is a passion that gets expressed in a multitude of colors and delightful eye catching forms, offering glimpses into an artists’ creative soul.

It is this very quality of art that drew fine artist Bhavika Govind Mangnani to it. A graduate from Rachna Sansad Academy of Fine Arts and Crafts Mumbai, Bhavika answered her inner calling to stretch the canvas of her life, add the colors of her imagination and embark on creating a space dedicated to art. In 2018 at a very young age of just 19, giving expression to her Artrepreneur instincts she established KALAKAAR ART STUDIO. Everyone is a Kalakaar, an Artist, is what she believes in – hence the name.

Says Bhavika, “I wanted a space that would be a confluence of my art and art lovers. It is a space where people can step in to see me work, discuss art and view or invest in my collection too.”

It’s been 4 art filled years and Bhavika keeps the vibe of the space alive with art exhibitions, art workshops and collaborative painting sessions. In fact she says, KALAKAAR ART STUDIO is the only “walk in art gallery” in all of suburban Mumbai.

A supportive family, her own instinctive artistic talents and her strong belief in the healing and spiritual aspects of fine art, recently saw Bhavika receive “Most Creative Artist of the Year 2022’ & ‘Outstanding and Creative Art Studio of the Year 2022’ at the prestigious Startup India Awards 2022!

As the Artist and also an Artrepreneur, Bhavika is gifted with a natural talent to perform both the roles with professional ease…

Nature imprints her subtle influences on Bhavika’s work and the great masters of the past, notably Van Gogh, has had a profound influence on shaping her art journey. Her art expressions are an extensive composition of abstracts, natural elements, spiritual figures and also life like hand drawn portraits.

As a professional Artrepreneur she dabbles in art selling and art consulting for residential and commercial spaces, reaching clients all over India and Dubai.

Among the many highlights of her journey, Bhavika cherished her very first painting of an Elephant done after graduation for her very first exhibition. She titled this creation as “Almast” which means carefree in Sindhi. This was picked up by none other than Sir Adi Jehangir – Chairman, Jehangir Art Gallery. Truly a milestone moment.

With more than 100 of her artworks adoring the spaces of the rich and famous, Bhavika has created a legion of admirers. She however has a deeper motive.

“I want Kalakaar to be a space from where people acknowledge and appreciate how important art is, how it has evolved with time and how we need to make space for art in our daily lives.” Shares Bhavika.

With the intention of “spreading love and joy through art” Bhavika also wants to highlight the fact that ART today is truly a full time profession, a paying career, a way of life for someone. This is a fact that she intends to inscribe into the minds of people.

So that triggered me a thought as to, what if I do the same business but with premium quality products that customers will fall in love with. That was the spark.” Priya told The Business Press.

So Priya decided to create her own brand that would give women a wide range of jewellery options that can help them put their most fashionable foot forward.

Though she manages everything for her business, there is always a man who keeps pushing her to do things she loves, her husband Chandru. Without him, taking up a new venture and striving hard would not be possible.

Running a small business, creating content for Instagram, shooting your product pictures, managing home and a full time job would not be really possible without her husband’s support.

“As a small business owner I am enjoying this journey I am put through and would love to keep exploring and reaching new heights in my business.” says the founder.

“Though I am the sole founder I have huge support from my husband and my family, who keep pushing me to do the best.  Even though I am not a photographer, I had to learn photography to enhance my photos and ensure that they look appealing to the clients. I had to learn how to light my products well and also how to post on my Instagram page to gain more followers. In short, I am peon to president,” claims Priya.

When passion becomes profession and much more

It’s not everyday that you see someone successfully turning his/her passion into a profession. But that’s how Madhuri’s story plays out. Madhuri began her career as a science teacher at Bhavan Vidyalaya, worked there for a few months but soon quit owing to her dedicated involvement in her husband’s jewelry shop. Gradually a boutique named Sanskriti was set up. It was during this time her younger child was born. Being a premature child, she needed undivided attention which consequently took a heavy toll on Madhuri’s physical and mental well-being. Madhuri decided to give up her work and focus solely on family. But as fate would have it, the feisty woman couldn’t stay away from art for too long.

Art has always had a significant presence in Madhuri’s life. And she resumed art with full fervor when her younger child turned 16. Be it screen printing, block printing or canvas painting, she gained expertise in different mediums. Madhuri continues “Then I came across resin art and started learning the craft by watching numerous videos. This was followed by a course on resin in Australia.”

Upon the suggestion of her little one Rashi, Madhuri began to channelise her potential to create miniature products including bookmarks, resin jewelry. The positive response from all quarters encouraged her to create resin jewelry. Thus she established the jewelry business at the age of 47 and eventually launched a website too. At 50, she’s a successful artist and entrepreneur who is proud to say “I’ve never felt happier than I do, running my business with my husband and two daughters as my constant support system.”

How this sibling duo found their true calling in life

As they say, anything worthwhile takes time to build. It took a while before Sejal and Dhruvi realized it was time to answer their true calling and left their respective jobs in pursuit of a shared dream. The sisters had grown up dreaming about building a business together but then, life happened and priorities changed. They drifted apart, one opting for engineering and the other, finance. 

After spending considerable time in their respective careers, Sejal and Dhruvi felt they were finally ready to take a leap of faith and start working towards their dream venture. That’s when they decided to rediscover their passion for fabrics, colors and designs and create something unique. It took nine months of extensive research after which they collaborated with the right vendors, conducted workshops and set up an ecosystem that would function as an efficient business. That’s how Label Ratan came into existence.

The label has created quite a buzz since last year with the launch of three collections, each starkly different from the other. Its 2-day offline exhibition received positive response with orders pouring in from all quarters. With Sejal looking after designing, marketing and social media & Dhruvi focusing on business operations, supply chain and website management, it’s a dream collaboration between two people who are playing to their strengths while learning on the job.
