How fascinating it is to witness our good old saree continuing to dominate the fashion industry with its evergreen charm and unmatched elegance. The six-yards of magical weave holds its ground pretty well, unruffled by the swiftly changing trends in the fashion industry.
Here’s a startup that truly understands the significance of sarees as a classic representation of our glorious past and strives to blend its old-world charm with modern aesthetics to create handloom sarees that find resonance with modern Indian women. Launched in July 2021 by Supriya Kondayath, Pichakam brings to you beautifully handwoven kasavu sarees that stand out for their elegant designs, fine craftsmanship and enduring grace, available at reasonable prices without compromising on the quality.
Drapes of elegance right at your doorstep
Supriya’s maiden venture took off during the turbulent times of the pandemic. Amidst chaos and uncertainty, she decided to focus on realizing a long-cherished dream of building her own startup. Supriya explains “I was working in the corporate sector but there was this strong desire to do something different, something more purposeful. It was during the pandemic that I started nurturing the idea of a startup.”
She was pregnant at that time but that didn’t stop her from making things happen. Handwoven sarees had always been close to her heart and that’s what she wanted to promote through her brand, Pichakamweaves.
Supriya adds “I began working directly with the weavers of Kuthampully, a small village in Kerala in an attempt to bring their breathtaking handloom sarees to the forefront. Its near my hometown and have done extensive research about their work, their wages and so much more.” Though handwoven sarees are deemed to be quite pricey, Supriya decided to work towards keeping the price within a reasonable range.
From our weavers to your hands
Pichakamweaves offers pure hand woven kasavu sarees in pristine pastel colors, thus making you look like a dream everytime you choose to adorn these sarees. These pure heirloom sarees will never fade or lose their ethereal charm. Even the motifs embracing these sarees are purely handwoven, not printed or painted. Besides sarees, you’ll find chic and comfy handwoven cotton dresses that are a perfect choice for a casual evening or a day out. Check out the blouses made using ikkat, silk, semi-silk, tussar and cotton materials. These will make for a stunning combination with your favorite handloom sarees.

Supriya mentions “We’ve woven beautiful sarees for Masoom, Vidya Balan, Aparna Balamurali and many more like Pooja Ramachandran, Shruti Ramachandran, Punya Elizabeth, Sshivada, Reshma Sebastian.”

Pichakamweaves has won over saree lovers across the globe with its unwavering dedication towards quality, affordability and customer service.
