Loham: Against all odds, this woman entrepreneur has single-handedly built a profitable jewellery startup.


The right piece of jewellery can elevate your look and transform even the most ordinary outfit into a stunning one in an instant! Every piece of jewellery tells a story, and the founder of Loham, Mishelle Susan from Cochin, Kerala has got many to tell.

The zeal to be an independent woman was enough of a motivation for this 37 years old housewife with 2 kids to launch her jewellery brand. Mishelle Susan was a school teacher who had to quit working due to her household responsibilities, but the thought of not doing enough to justify her potential was always pricking her like a thorn. She made a decision to do something about it at her own pace and in her own capabilities.


She was always fond of jewellery, so she felt that this could be a good business to get into. She started exploring elegant jewellery pieces like earring, necklaces, rings, bangles, necklaces, etc. from wholesalers and started sharing pictures of the jewellery with friends and relatives on Whatsapp. She received overwhelming response from them, which motivated her further to start her own brand.

Social Media – The new age Assistant


Once you have been bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, you can’t go back to thinking basic and despite being new in the technologically advanced generation, Mishelle found ideas to promote her jewellery on social media and that’s when the business took a sharp turn in the upward direction. Mishelle contacted several influencers in Kerala who had a wide reach than just her WhatsApp contacts.

Enquiries started to flow in and so did the appreciation for her work. But with the cut-throat competition in the wholesale-retail jewellery business Michelle knew she had to up her game soon. Mishelle started to listen to her customers requests and with good bond with the wholesalers she started designing customised jewellery for her customers. This included earrings, bangles, necklaces, rings, etc. This move proved to be vital for Loham and earned her many repeat clients.

The future of Loham


Now that Loham is pan India and slowly spreading amongst south Indians based in UAE, Mishelle is very grateful to everyone who has helped her reach this stage and grow every day. Currently Mishelle is the sole owner and employee of her business Loham, from taking calls and orders to managing bills and inventory, all is handled solely by her.

She wishes to move forward at her own pace and is content with the progress she is making while learning the do’s and don’ts of business as she grows.
