After every available dish has been devoured, it’s the desserts that leave a sweet lingering taste in your mouth, making your meal complete. However, most of the popular desserts contain artificial chemicals and sweeteners that add to their delightful charm. Launched on 10th February 2021 by a budding-chef-turned-entrepreneur Prakhar Gupta, Cherry on a Take is a startup that strives to offer the healthiest desserts to the local community where everyone has access to good quality, nutritious food, understands the consequences of hunger and poor nutrition and is committed to creating a stronger, healthier & sustainable environment.
Beginning of a sweet journey
Despite growing up with a sweet tooth, Prakhar resented the amount of refined flour, fats and sugar desserts contained and their eventual side effects. In 2019, he completed his education in Culinary & hospitality from IHM Chandigarh besides interning with reputed hotels & restaurants. After a short stint as a baker, he joined the Masters program. It was while he was on a cake shopping excursion for a friend’s birthday in Delhi that an idea struck him.
When no bakery offered a sugar-free, vegan cake combination even on pre-order, he decided to find a solution to this problem. He further adds “Being a chef in the industry I had a clue about the amount of chemicals and adulterated ingredients that go in each dessert. So, I decided to make something which would be healthy and free from chemicals.”Thus, with unconditional support and guidance from family and friends, Prakhar began his journey.
Cherry on a Take : Desserts with a difference
Each Cherry on a Take product is vegan, chemical-free, manufactured using Indian indigenous flours like barley, ragi, aata. The sweetener used is natural stevia. The products are 60-70% low on sugar and 40-50% low on fats as compared to other similar brands and are available at surprisingly affordable prices. The brand aims to be fastest in terms of delivery and has a guaranteed satisfaction promise, so that if a customer is dissatisfied with a delivered product, he/she can customize it according to preference.
Though based in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the products reach every Tier 1 and almost all Tier 2 cities across India. Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore are few notable cities to mention. The brand prides itself on being the first complete Vegan food outlet of Kanpur. Orders are placed via its website and social media accounts. Prakhar believes in reaching out to customers directly as it helps maintain quality and efficiency of service.
Having served 250+ happy customers within a short span, the startup is confident of reaching a growth rate of 20% per month.
Zooming into the future
Currently the venture is expanding on e-com platforms and looking to move to a bigger facility and be more environmentally sustainable in its operations. Prakhar explains “In the next 5 years we want to be India’s premier Dessert Brand. We drive with Trust and believe in Great Food Serves Great purpose. We are one of the few food brands in India to go Zero waste. Our aim is to be Carbon Neutral by the end of this year.”
