“The Earth is what we all have in common.” – Wendell Berry.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a regional festivity that sees a surge in religious activities. For 11 days, devotees engage in vigorous worship of Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is worshipped for prosperity and knowledge. People bring the idol into their home or commonplace, offer prayers, play devotional music, prepare and distribute sweets like Modak and then eventually immerse the idol into the sea waters, marking the end of the festival.

While this is a glorious event for humans, it is catastrophic for the environment. Most of these idols are made out of materials that aren’t biodegradable. Every year, there’s a dangerous amount of debris that gets washed up at the beaches, thus polluting the environment. Quality of seawater gets tarnished. Sea life also gets affected severely.

The Business Press is proud to spotlight these three brands that create eco-friendly Lord Ganesha idols that will make sure you celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi while protecting the environment.

Clay Events

Deepika Gupta founded and launched Clay Events on 14th November, 2010. Clay Events is a flourishing event management firm, and hosts various types of events for all age groups across Mumbai.

For Ganesh Chaturthi, Clay Events has two options:

Make Your Ganesha –

For the last 8 years, Clay Events have been actively curating and executing their workshop “Make and Plant your Ganesha” all across India. With the help of their trained team, more than 5000 participants have created, worshiped, and then turned their Ganesha into a plant. The whole essence of Make your Ganesha is to create the idol with your own hands and feel One with the Almighty.

A feeling of pure bliss and happiness. One does not require experience to create these idols, one just needs to have the intention to create it! The team has been trained to help all the participants to enjoy the process and craft their beautiful idols. Make Your Ganesha idol turns into a hibiscus plant on immersion – in a flower pot. So Bappa literally blooms in your garden blessing your family and loved ones.

Ready-made Idol –

This is for people who want to be a part of this joyful celebration, but don’t want to make their own idols. Ready-made idols are also eco-friendly, so Visarjan can be done in a bucket of water, post which this water will be safe to water plants.

Clay Events deliver their Ganesha Kits throughout the country. All orders apart from Mumbai will be locked on 3rd September, 2021 and people residing in Mumbai can place orders until 7th September, 2021.

In the next 5 years, Clay Events intend to create more awareness about eco-friendly, sustainable ways of celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi throughout the world.

Morya Arts

Artist Shreehari Bhosle founded Morya Arts in May, 2020 under the parent company RK Arts. He is a very reputed sculptor and a painter for the last 20 years. He’s a true devotee, and has been celebrating this festival every year. He believes there must be PURITY within an artist to make Lord Ganesha idols.

Most artists use Plaster of Paris to make the idols. He realised that the value of soil is disappearing and people are deviating from the concept of nature and the dedication of worship. People started looking for products that are lightweight and have different design variations, which is easily possible with Plaster of Paris – but it is very harmful towards nature. During this lockdown, he thought about connecting nature and the celebration of the festival with PURITY without harming nature.

All Ganesha idols are made HANDMADE from 100% natural products which are also BIO-DEGRADABLE.

Even the accessories are made using biodegradable Red Soil and other eco-friendly materials. The Puja Thali Set contains a Diya and Agarbatti stand and a Modak Shaped Money Bank.
